This remodel and seismic upgrade of the Pacific Alliance Hospital
in Los Angeles was designed in the aftermath of the Northridge
earthquake. The latest available computer programs were utilized in
designing and specifying hundreds of retrofit tie-downs, dozens of
sheer walls and other stiffing structures. Every effort was made to
minimize the impact on the existing structure and accommodate the
remodeling without creating severe interruptions to hospital
operations.
